Boulevard, Duin, Strand, Bos en uitzicht op Bollen.
Een wandeling in en bij Noordwijk aan Zee van zo'n 8 km met relatief weinig Waypoints om optimaal te kunnen genieten van de gevarieerde omgeving. Nadeel hiervan: als je een verkeerd coordinaat hebt duurt het lang voordat je in de gaten hebt dat je fout zit: lees dus goed. Blijf op de paden en vermijdt fiets- en ruiterpaden. Alleen voor de Cache moet je het pad verlaten. Staatsbosbeheer Hollands Duin, Noordwijk, heeft toestemming gegeven voor het plaatsen van deze cache. (www.staatsbosbeheer.nl).

Let op: De oorspronkelijke cache is verplaatst,zie de additional waypoints. Omdat wij deze "oude" cache, geplaatst door Wout11 in 2007,onderhouden en in zijn originele staat willen behouden, is er in de tekst dan ook niets veranderd. De hint van het eindpunt is niet geheel juist maar geeft nu alleen aan waar ongeveer gezocht moet worden.

De zeewering in Noordwijk aan Zee vormde een zwakke schakel in de Hollandse kust. In 2002 bleek zelfs de golfbelasting groter dan tot dan toe aangenomen. Tussen september 2007 en april 2008 is net achter de boulevard een "dijk in duin" aangebracht in combinatie met 50 m duinverbreding richting zee. De dijk is weer afgedekt door het duin. Het strand is dus 50 m richting zee opgeschoven.

De Atlantikwall, waarvan je hier een stukje ziet, was een 2685 kilometer lange verdedigingslinie, die de Duitsers tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog aanlegden ter voorkoming van een geallieerde invasie. De Atlantikwall liep van Noorwegen, tot aan grens met Spanje. De verdedigingslinie bestond uit bunkers, kanonnen en mijnenvelden. In de Noordduinen van Noordwijk zijn zo'n 80 werken gebouwd met o.a. zware bunkers met wanden van soms wel drie meter dik beton. Begin jaren 1970 werden de bunkers afgesloten en onder het duinzand weggewerkt. Eén bunker bleef over. Dit was een grote munitieopslagbunker die in verband met de toenmalige Sovjetdreiging werd verbouwd om kunstvoorwerpen te kunnen opslaan. Als kunstschattenbergplaats heeft de bunker geen belang meer. In deze bunkers is nu het Atlantikwall museum gevestigd, open op zondag van half mei tot half september, ingang Bosweg 15 (www.atlantikwall.nl).

Op het komende traject zie je naar links kijkend door de bomen de bloembollenvelden. De kweek van tulpen in Nederland begon in de 17e eeuw nadat de eerste tulpenbol in 1593 in Nederland (Hortus Botanicus in Leiden)arriveerde vanuit Perzië via Turkije (Constantinopel). Spoedig werd de tulp in Nederland een geliefde en zeer exclusieve bloem. Er werden voor de bol extreem hoge prijzen betaald. Voor één bol werd wel dezelfde prijs betaald als de prijs van een koopmanshuis (windhandel). In 1637 zakte de prijs van de ene dag op de andere in en waren schatrijke mensen, met hun tulp, in één klap straatarm. Aanvankelijk werden vooral geëgaliseerde strandwallen of "geesten" (letterlijk: "zandgronden") gebruikt. De geesten bleken ideale omstandigheden te bieden voor de kweek van tulpen, narcissen en hyacinten. Later werden afgegraven duingronden gebruikt. Sinds 1980 worden naast afgegraven duingronden ook steeds meer weilanden gebruikt als bollengrond. Het zand uit de ondergrond wordt hierbij naar boven gehaald (zgn. omspuiting). De beste tijd om de bollenvelden te zien is van eind maart tot begin mei. In Lisse is een leuk museum (het hele jaar open) geheel gericht op de bollencultuur door de eeuwen heen (www.museumdezwartetulp.nl).

Tot 1972 lag in het stuk duin tussen dit punt en Noordwijk een golfbaan. Het gebied is afgeplagt en het duingebied herstelt zich als stuifduingebied.

A walk in and in the surroundings of Noordwijk aan Zee of about 8 km with relatively few Waypoints so that you can enjoy the different sceneries. Disadvantage of this: if you have the wrong coordinates it may take a while before you notice that you are wrong. So read careful! Where in a question a "word" is asked your answer should be in English. Stay on the pathes and avoid cycle and horse pathes. Only for the Cache you must leave the path. Staatsbosbeheer Hollands Duin, Noordwijk, has given permission to place this cache.

The protection against the sea in Noordwijk was a weak link in the Dutch coast. In 2002 the water wave pressure turned out to be even greater than anticipated. Between September 2007 and April 2008 a dike has been constructed just behind the boulevard in combination with a 50 m enlargement of the dunes into the direction of the sea. The dike is again covered with dunes. So the beach has been moved 50 m. seawards.

The Atlantikwall, of which you see here a small part, was a 2685 km defence line built by the Germans during the Second World War to prevent an allied invasion. The Atlantikwall did run from Norway to the border of Spain. The defence line existed of bunkers, cannons and mine fields. In the North Dunes of Noordwijk some 80 constructions were built with, amongst others, heavy bunkers with walls of sometimes more than 3 m concrete. Beginning of the years 1970 the bunkers were closed and covered with dune sand. One bunker remained. This was a large ammunition storage bunker that was rebuild into an art storage facility because of the Soviet threat of that time. As an art storage facility the bunker today has no use any more. The bunker now has been remodelled into the Atlantikwall museum open at Sunday from mid May to mid September, entrance Bosweg 15 (www.atlantikwall.nl).

Along the stretch you are going to walk now you will see through the trees on the left the bulb fields. The cultivation of tulip bulbs started in the Netherlands in the 17th century after the arrival of the first bulb in the Netherlands in 1593 from Persia via Turkey (Constantinopel). Soon after the introduction the tulip became a popular but exclusive flower in the Netherlands. Extreme high prices were paid. For a single bulb it was no exception to pay an amount equal to the price of a merchant house ("wind trade"). In 1639 the prices did fall sharply and many very wealthy people became, with their bulb, suddenly very poor indeed. Initially, egalised beach walls were used for cultivating bulbs. These sand grounds turned out to be very suitable for the cultivation of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. Later, digged away dunes are used for the bulb fields. Since 1980 also grass grounds are used for growing bulbs. For this purpose, the sand of the lower layers is brought to the surface. The best period to see the bulb fields is from end of March to mid May. Lisse (10 km from here) has a nice little museum (open year around) devoted to the culture of bulb growing through the ages (www.museumdezwartetulp.nl).

Until 1972 the part of the dunes between this point and Noordwijk was used for golf. Now we see in this area again beautiful drift sand dunes.
