Geocache Description:

This is a quick multi-cache that should take no-longer than 45 mins to complete, car door to car door.. It is suitable for pushchairs and has been designed with children in mind – of any age! Apart from the physical element required to remove the cache from its hiding place this one should be suitable for wheelchair users.

Park just over the canal bridge on the left hand side of this no-through road. Proceed to the above coordinates that will lead you to a hidden micro. Please take care crossing the road by the bridge. This micro will give you the coordinates for the main cache.

The micro is hidden on the Kennet and Avon canal path.

Construction of the Kennet and Avon Canal began in the mid 1790’s. It is an impressive feat of engineering, with many examples of canal industrial heritage. Running from the River Avon Navigation at Bristol to the River Thames at Reading, it provides the link to complete a continuous waterway across Southern England from Bristol to London.

Semington Locks were built between 1718 and 1723 under the supervision of the engineer John Hore of Newbury. They have a combined rise/fall of 16ft 1in (4.9m). The two locks are known as Buckley’s (number 15) and Barrett’s (16).

Adjacent to the locks, the canal crosses the 2004 Semington Aqueduct, built to allow the A350 road to bypass Semington village.

Once you have found the coordinates for the main cache head off along the road towards the village, sticking to the main pathways to avoid getting muddy.

The main cache has a theme - if you haven’t guessed it yet it is DISNEY. It belongs to me (I am the youngest of the Hunter Trio and I love Disney ). It is a small plastic container, with room for small swaps and T.B’s, hidden inside a camouflage bag. Young children will need help to reach this.

If you have children with you then why not stop off at the children’s playground when you have finished, it is only a short detour on your way back –at Wessex Close, N51 20.584 W002 09.157.

Before you leave the area you may wish to consider two more caches that are nearby. The first is hidden by Gowenhouse “Semington Aqueduct GCK92E” and the second is another of ours “The Hunt is on in Semington GC1048K”, a 3 mile walk starting and finishing in Semington.

If you fancy a bite to eat the Somerset Arms is a good place to eat or even to have some well earned refreshment of some kind. .
