THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED CO-ORDINATES, they show the location of the Bow Valley Provincial Park main parking lot. The information required to determine the cache location must be gathered while walking the Montane interpretive trail. This interesting 1.5 km single track loop over rolling forested terrain begins behind the toilets located in the parking lot. The park can be accessed from either Hwy 1 or Hwy 1A via the Hwy 1X connector just west of the Kananaskis River.
You will pass a number of informative signs as you walk around the trail in a CLOCKWISE (BACKWARDS) direction. The sign titles are shown below in the order you will come to them if you hike the trail in a clockwise direction. Count the number of words in the first line of text body on each sign and perform the following simple calculations:
1. Look and Listen – 18 less the # of words = A
2. Another Tree, Another Forest – 13 less the # of words = B
3. A Fallen Giant – 13 less the # of words = C
4. Montane Giant – 10 less the # of words = D
5. Facing East, Facing West – 17 less the # of words = E
6. The Making of the Valley – 8 less the # of words = F
The cache is located at N51° 04.ABC’ and W115° 04.DEF’ not far from Leah’s bench. It is an 850 ml LnL, containing some nice swag including a $10.00 Starbucks gift card for the FTF.
Although Mrs BVPete and I did not know Leah we have thought of her often while sitting on this bench as well as another one dedicated to her, located in Heart Creek Canyon (near the falls). We reflect on our good fortune to be able to walk in these beautiful places for a while and somehow we feel closer to Leah, as if she were a good friend.
So sit for a while, enjoy the views and remember Leah.
