Mrs Z's Rock Palace Traditional Cache

Another huge set of rocks for your repeated enjoyment.
Doesn’t zenrider have a couch or something to play with this winter? “It’s better to burn out, than it is to rust.” So, for the New Year, it’s time to walk it off.
This cache is located at a huge set of rocks that encircle most of a prominent point off the main ridge of this mountain system. This cache might be combined with Dead Man’s Cave. If you can do all these in one day, you are the iron-cacher. I placed the cache nearer the western end of the outcropping. If you are one of the first few here, there is plenty of room up here for several more caches.
These rocks are really great. There are many ledges, caves, spring seeps, steam holes, pit caves. They are scattered over a pretty big area. You could come here all summer and not find everything. There are bears, bobcats and coyotes all over up here. Wear your orange during hunting seasons.
You should plan on spending considerable time getting to and from this cache. You will also want to spend some time exploring. You could plan your whole day around just this cache, there is so much to explore.
How to get there?
If driving: During hunting seasons, you may drive within 0.1 miles. Sounds easy, no? The road with the gate across from Pine Acres Golf Corse will take you to a parking area near by located below the rocks. You will drive about 10 miles of 4WD roads with ever changing conditions. Logging trucks have the right of way. Never block them. Several other caches may be found along this route.
If hiking: Park at the end of W. Corydon Street. Your gps will tell you that you are less than a mile away. (ha haaa hhaaah ha ha ha ) Go through the green gate to your north west(roughly). About 100 yards, there is a dirt road on your right. Take it. You are on your way. This last part is mountaineering, not hiking. Wimps and sissies please stay on the couch, this is not for you.
This rock outcropping area is huge and may possibly extend clear from Dead Man’s Cave to this area. If you go to DMC first, you may be able to stay on top and vector to these rocks (West from DMC 0.3 mi then South 0.2 mi). If you go to DMC first, you may also think that was quite enough for one day.
Things to take: besides your gps, you will need lots more water than you are thinking. Sturdy boots, hiking staff, bug spray, food. My #1 recommended item, a space blanket. You will want it to retrieve the cache.
Pictures of cachers should try to include bleeding area(s) for extra caching points.
What are you looking for?
50 cal ammo can hidden in an obvious spot. Please restack rubble as found to prevent muggles. The original contents include a number of items MrsZ has selected over the year. There are a couple of guy things and a couple of youth items. Still, this is probably not a great area to take youth less than 14 yrs. There is also a KacheKat and kickin’ Geocoin for FTF and my first and perhaps only travel bug attached to a special power item named “The Hoobligah”.
I took lots of different coords and these ones lead me within 12 feet of the cache repeatedly. You have to go to the top of the rock set. Be very careful up here. Natural pitfalls are everywhere.
Access Update:
The gate at end of W. Corridon is closed as of 10/6/12.
