Gabe's Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Fexy01: I'm concerned about cachers causing damage to the Lock while looking for the cache. That's simply unacceptable. The cache was on the highway side, with no need to climb on or cause damage to the Lock to find it. And for you "CO should check the coords" folks, well, I did, and it was spot on folks. Just 'cause it isn't where you think it should be, doesn't mean the coords are off!

At any rate, I think this has run its course here, and we're shutting it down. Our grandson, for whom the cache was named, has moved out of state, so we have very little reason to visit the area.

Thanks for the memories.

Geocache Description:

Located along Route 60 between Lexington and Buena Vista (not far off of I-81/I-64), the Ben Salem Wayside offers complimentary barbeque grills, picnic tables, and a bit of history. Right on the Maury River, there are some interesting ruins of the Ben Salem Locks, which were still in use into the late 1800s. The wayside is also the starting point for float trips on the Maury River, which has mostly Class I and II rapids in this area, but further downstream has some class III and two class IV rapids.

This is one of our favorite places to visit, and since we are here this time to visit our first grandson, Gabriel, born October 10, 2006, we decided to place this cache in his honor.

The cache is small, and its original contents include a logbook, mechanical pencil, a FTF prize, a Travel Bug, and a couple of micro cache containers, complete with logs, so that others can spread the fun. Please replace the cache carefully, so that it is not too visible to muggles. You may want to bring your own pen/pencil, as those in caches have a way of disappearing.

The trees in the area might make GPSr readings tricky, but you should be able to get pretty close. (NO NEED TO GET CLOSE TO THE RIVER)
