Geocache Description:

One of the most beautiful parks in New Zealand.

Pureora Forest Park is now under the management of the Department of Conservation and has many beautiful walks long and short.

This Cache is best accessed from Highway 32 turn onto the Waihora Lagoon Road (at waypoint), travel 15 minutes along a gravel road. Dont worry if the gates are closed, it is only likely to mean there are sheep grazing the long paddock. Turn left up a sharp rise and on to the carpark. The gravel road is a bit rough in places but passable in a family car. The last two hundred metres could be interesting in winter.

The lagoon is a 10 minute walk from the carpark.

If you are a tramper this track can also link up with the Waihora Track that can either lead you to the Bog Inn Hut or by turning Left will take you to the Waihaha Hut. If you are adventurous you can walk from the Waihaha Valley through to here picking up another cache on the way.

The walk to GZ will take you through some beautiful New Zealand bush with the biggest Rimu and Kahikatea trees I have seen. Moss covered tree trunks and ferns give this place an eerie and magical feel. We thought we saw an elf flit through the undergrowth. Bring good footwear as the track is often wet and boggy. If you are going to continue on to see the Lagoon keep left for better footing as it is very wet and boggy on the right hand side. Frogs abound on sunny days.

The cache is an ammo box that is camo'd and contains the usual trade items and a log. Continue on to the lagoon to enjoy some wonderful scenery.
