Geocache Description:

Olancha! Many who seek trout, High Sierra adventures, snow, Death Valley and just a wonderful part of our glorious state California, must pass thru here to get there.

Olancha has a rather routine history like many other towns that developed in the 1800's. It was first inhabited by Indians and then as mining developed, a stamping mill was built here. The "Jawbone spur" of the railroad terminated here. It was used to support the L.A.Aqueduct construction which was occurring at the time. But mostly it was a place where cattle and sheepherders brought their herds to graze on nearby Monache meadows as they still do today. A post office was opened here in 1870 and has remained open since then.

There is a large Crystal Geyser brand water bottling plant located about one mile north. Annheiser Busch owns property here and pumps water for use by their bottling plant in Los Angeles.

A longtime restaurant here, still serves the weary traveler, who can also bed down at the RV park or the two motels farther South on Hwy 395.

Those big signs that brag about REAL GOOD JERKY? It's here too.

Cache is log only...please bring pen/pencil. Stealth required.

Cache On!
