Geocache Description:

The cache container is a camo film canister with a log book. There will be no need to bushwack to this cache. The terrain is flat and level. This is a two part multi.

This cache will take you to a place of great historic interest to early Batavians.

Around 1810, the State of New York had made a contract with Joseph Ellicott to erect a log building twenty feet square and twelve feet high to be used as an arsenal for the storage of arms and ammunition. The arsenal was situated on Alexander Road above the mill. It was soon abandoned and a stone arsenal building was erected at the west end of the Village of Batavia under the supervision of Major Isaac Sutherland. This arsenal was abandoned about 1816. It was torn down in 1872 and the stone was used for the foundation of the first high school.

Look for the plaque and monument that reads the following:
"On This Historic Spot Once An Arsenal For The Protection Of The Lives And Homes Of The Citizens Of This Community We hereby Commemorate The Glory And Grandeur Of American Institutions And The Valor And Patriotism Of The Soldiers And Sailors Of The War Of 1812."

In order to locate the cache final you will need to figure out the following:
N 43 00.ABC W 078 12.DEF
A= subtract the 4th digit from the 2nd digit in the year that the monument was dedicated and add the 3rd digit
B= add the 1st and 3rd digit in the year that the monument was erected
C= the # of written lines on the plaque
D= the 3rd digit in the date the sign was dedicated
E= the # of syllables in the name of the Chapter who dedicated the monument minus 1
F= the # of letters in the name of the Chapter who dedicated the monument minus 2

The cache container is located in a highly muggable location and you will need to use extreme precaution in retrieving and replacing the container. Please make sure that the lid is on securely to keep it watertight. You will need to bring along your own pencil.
