The
Horse Hill Nature Preserve consists of approximately 563 acres
of gently rolling to fairly steep terrain and two hills of
approximately 400' elevation. The land was cleared for pasture in
previous centuries, has been logged several times, and now consists
primarily of a mixed hardwood forest with trees between 20 and 60
years of age.
This is the third cache to be placed on the property. The
Horse Hill Preserve cache will give you a quick introduction to
the area. For a more challenging outing I highly recommend
Horse Hill Multiple Choice. This cache falls in-between
those two in terms of difficulty and length. Be prepared to
spend two hours or more exploring the preserve.
There are three waypoints in route to the final cache.
Each waypoint is just off very well established or well marked
trails. The waypoints are accessible in winter, the cache
could be covered in snow. Many of the trails have wet spots
(thanks to the numerous beavers) so waterproof boots or a change of
shoes are recommended.
For more adventure, it's a relatively easy bushwhack from
waypoint 1 to waypoint 2.
Access to the town's
trail map during your journey will also be very helpful.
