Geocache Description:

The cache is located along the hiking/biking trail at the Bodcau recreation area. You can find it by traveling the entire course or taking a shortcut. Options are described below. The area is closed after dark. Entry is free.

The cache is hidden near the Durden Hills nature trail that begins in the Tom Merrill Recreation Area at Bayou Bodcau Dam and Reservoir. The trail is about six miles long, but it twists and turns and won’t take you more than ½ mile from the car at any time.

The trail is well marked with directional and mileage arrows. Don’t fret if you sometimes see directional arrows pointing two ways at an intersection. One path will be a short segment of more technical trail for mountain bikers; either path will get you to the same place.

Option 1: You can hike/bike all of the trail and find the cache about midway around. To begin your trip, cross the wooden bridge and enter the woods at the parking area at N32 41.988; W093 30.711. You’ll come back after about 6 miles. There are mile markers along the way. Follow the directional arrows.

Option 2: Use your GPS and savvy to shorcut your way to the cache via the blacktop road and the trails.

If you don’t trust your savvy, the HINT (for lazy folks) tells you where to enter the woods and connect with the trail for a quick trip to the cache with only 10 minutes or so of hiking.

The cache is a medium-size “lock and lock” container. I left a pen, but bring one just in case.

Please park only in a designated area. Yes, you will have to do some walking even with Option 2, but this ain’t no park and grab!

Along the Trail: If you take the long route, or as a special trip, visit the memorial tribute bench at 32 42.043 093 30.398. It is a work of art dedicated to the memory of an artist who enjoyed mountain biking on the trail with her husband. Other small art objects are sometimes placed near the bench. There were a dozen red roses on the bench on the day I placed the cache.

Please treat the bench area with respect and leave that area, and any remembrances and mementos that may have been placed by friends or family, exactly as you found them. These are not trade items. They are memorials.

Have a good hike, and happy caching!
