Geocache Description:

One of the great things about a nice long caching hike is a bite of low-hanging fruit at the beginning (or the end, your choice). Species5618, Oatlet #2 and I had a fantastic morning placing caches all over this area for people to enjoy, so please do so.

The Auburn State Recreation area is a wonderful place with lots of room to hike, bike, or ride your horse. With many kilometers* of trails of all sizes, most of the terrain is fairly moderate--even easy--and meanders around all sides of the confluence of the North and Middle Forks of the American River. I have hiked there many times over the years and have barely scratched the surface of what there is to see, so even if you think you have been there before, go back. It's worth a second, or third, or fourth...trip.

This cache is placed near the trailhead for the Olmstead Loop, not too far from the fire station in Cool. From there you can basically go in several directions and there are caches in all of them, placed by many fine cachers such as Scoobert, Species5618, SKWERL, SierraHiker, Mostly Moose, Dak's Emu Mob...all well-hidden caches in lovely surroundings. For more details about the area, I recommend you check out the cache descriptions for nearby caches; I will not burden you with repeating all that good info here.

Just come. You will be glad you did.

*I'm a science teacher, so of course I am going to use the metric system. For those metric-deficient Americans who are unfamiliar with the word kilometer, just assume that a kilometer is slightly less than a mile (3.1 miles is 5 kilometers) and let it go at that. Heh.
