"The Broch" (pronounced "Brok") is actually Fraserburgh, Scotland where my family originates from. It is a tough area filled with rolling hills and beautiful countryside. The stage one marker has the Fraserburgh harbour logo burnt into one side and the coordinates to the final location on the other side.
This is a lung burner so don't be fooled by the initial coordinates that this might be a park and grab - it is not. The hike is relatively short and is best started at the Acropolis Trailhead (N41 10.275 W074 47.427). Parking is NOT available at the trailhead. I parked at the Blue Ribbon in the corner of their parking lot after asking for permission. Otherwise there is a pull off further north on 206 with a bit of a walk back to the TH.
The first stage will present a large wood disc with the logo burned into one side and the coordinates for the next stage on the other. It has been placed to lead you to the Acropolis Trail. Follow this trail up to the final coordinates. The final location has a large ammo can with the usual goodies.
As you head up, you will cross the Appalatchian Trail. When you reach the final location the REAL prize at a view spot located just west and up from the hide spot. Take the time (and a camera) up to N41 10.412 W074 47.594 as this is one of the best 360 degree views I have seen in NJ - an excellent panoramic view of Culver Lake, High Point in the distance north and west to PA.
I placed this in January but imagine this will be an active animal area in warmer weather. I found a skunk that had been chewed up by another animal and it looks like prime snake locations. Also lots of rocks that will be slick if wet or icy. So watch where you reach and step.
Enjoy your hike!
