Geocache Description:

The old name of the Glen is Glenduisk, meaning “The Glen of Blackwater”. About 1110 a battle was fought between Mekan, King of Norway (son of Magnus Barefoot) and the Gaels. The invaders were defeated and the slaughtered were thrown into the River Ruail, hence Glen-da-Ruail meaning Glen of Red Blood. The name of the clachan was anglicised to Glendaruel.

Not going to give much away but the cache is on an Island.

You will need waders, a dingy or a canoe if you don't want to get your feet wet. River is deceptively deep in places so care must be taken. I used waders today and the water was at the top of my thighs and I'm 6'2" but there has been alot of rain recently.

Also, The cache container is attached to an object on the island to prevent it being washed away when the river is in spate and the island is flooded so please leave it attached. The lid screws off.

Access to river bank is via a gate opposite parking coordinates.

Pictures to follow in the next few weeks as it was too wet and miserable today to take any good pics.

Camping & Caravaning is available close by on a family run site at Glendaruel Caravan & Camping Park
