Geocache Description:

A nice walk along nice trails starting out near a pond. You won't need to leave any of the trails until the end stage of this multi. You will probably not find too many muggles in this underutilized park, but if you do of course you will need to use some stealth.

Welcome to Clayton Park in Upper Freehold, NJ. Clayton Park is in a tranquil wooded property in Western Monmouth County near Allentown, NJ. It is known for it’s stately stands of oak, ash, and birch trees. Nearly 8 miles of forested trails are a popular destination for bicyclists, hikers, and equestrians.

This place has been carefully chosen as the first cache hidden by the Green Guydes. Clayton Park doesn’t appear to have any other caches and is a place of real beauty during each of the seasons. The hiking trails on occasion will have spots of excess moisture, but the forested areas don’t get too overgrown and should make for a nice walk. All trails in this multi are considered Easy on the map but there are some uphill areas.

Initial contents in this full-sized ammo box (as caching was intended!) are 1) a Penguin GreenGuyde travel bug 2) a Washington State geocoin 3) a pirate bandanna and 4) a string of peace beads. The Penguin bug has enjoyed his time in central NJ and loves his elegant treehouse but wants to see other parts of the country and ultimately Australia to join up with some other penguins. The owners may on occasion launch future penguin and other travelers from this place.

Parking is at N40 09.350 W074 30.263, off of Emley’s Hill Road. There are Clayton Park maps at the welcoming kiosk.

1) To get to the first stage, you can take either the trail to the left or the right to go down towards the pond. Go to N40 09.687 W074 30.248.
2) For the second stop on our tour, look at the trail marker and count the number of arrows on the sign post. Put that in the N blank, and subtract 2 for the W blank. Go to N40 09._24 W074 29.9_2, passing over a foot bridge on the way.
3) Now count the number of arrows on that sign post. This is your N blank and add 2 for the W blank. Go to N40 09._35 W074 30.1_3 also passing over a bridge.
4) You’re almost done! You will find a large tree a few steps away from the trail at this location. On the side away from the trail, you will find an inscription EM with two numbers directly underneath. Subtract 17 from this number and include in the N blank. Subtract the two inscribed numbers to get the W blank. N40 09.4__ W074 30.15_. This will take you to the cache itself.
