Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden in the Yakima River Delta Wildlife Nature Area near the confluence of the Yakima and Columbia rivers. I’m not sure if it is part of the Richland Environmental Area, the Riverview Natural Preserve, the Chamna Natural Preserve, and/or the W.E. Johnson Park, but it is adjacent to all of them.

This area is home to many different forms of wildlife including deer, turkeys, coyotes, pheasants, quail, owls, as well as a variety of songbirds and raptors. Unfortunately, it also is a favorite spot for the local fishermen to fish on the banks of the Yakima River and they have left large amounts of garbage and trash. Please haul trash out as you leave.

SAFETY WARNING: The terrain for this cache is a difficulty of 1. It is good for families with small children. It is a short hike on mostly two-track trails. Off of the two-tracks are numerous one-tracks through knee-high (waist-high, if you are a child) grass that lead to the river’s edge. These one-tracks END ABRUPTLY at the edge of vertical riverbanks. The fisherman stand there (8 – 20 feet above the water) to fish. The bank is sometimes undercut and there is evidence of collapse. Even though this is an excellent cache for bringing small children, I would advise that you do not allow them to run ahead on the one-track trails. And anyone, adult as well as children, should not allow their attention to be diverted from where they are walking when on the one-tracks.

Since this cache was already stolen once, I would like to ask that you please take care to hide it well when you put it back in place.
