This cache is located in forested conservation land that is mostly swamp. It's found along a snowmobile trail, just a short distance in from the road.
I'm putting this cache up for adoption now (Oct. 2019), along with most of my others. Unfortunately following heart surgery I have ended up paralyzed and am no longer able to get out and do the maintenance required, let alone find new caches. I will archive all these caches at the end of the year if they are not adopted. Alternatively you can just collect the cache, let me know and I will archive it. The Cedarville Esker is a glacial formation that runs from about 2 miles southeast of the village to about 4 miles north. An esker is a narrow, steep-sided ridge of gravel, which geologists believe formed as a stream-bed inside a glacier. Once the ice melted, the gravel, previously held up by walls of ice on each side, formed a narrow ridge across the landscape. Almost all eskers in Ontario have totally disappeared, mined for their gravel, but for a considerable distance, this one still exists. The cache is actually a short distance to the east, but just along the road to the west of the trail to the cache, you can see the esker in profile on the north side of the road. I haven't yet ascertained if it is on public or private land, but the cache itself is on public land. Across the road, you can see through a gate that the esker has been totally mined out for several hundred yards to the southeast. If you drive west to the nearest farms, and look back to the northeast you can clearly trace the esker by the line of taller trees on the ridge. The cache itself is an easy one, a short distance in, but the trail is heavily shaded by cedar trees, so your gps may have a challenge, and it will be a dark trail in the evening.
