Parking is as shown on the road where there is space for several
cars. There is a small parking area by the mill down the lane. The
mill and museum are closed during the winter but the area is
publicly accessible.
Preston Mill is one of the oldest mechanically intact
water-driven meal mills in Scotland. There has been a mill here
since the 12th century, but the current mill dates from the 17th
and 18th centuries. The mill operated until the 1950's when it was
given to the National Trust for Scotland. The setting is idyllic
and reminiscent of an old country painting.
If you walk past the mill and cross the bridge, you will see
Phantassie Doocot, another NTS property, and which at one time
housed as many as 500 birds. There is a small information board
that can be pulled out.
You do NOT need to enter the field to find the cache.
