Geocache Description:

Old Parish Church, Kilmarie, Craignish. In the Township of Kirkton. The cache itself is in the ruined Church and is not difficult to find you just have to be reasonably tall and have good reach. Its a 35mm film canister.

The Parish church of Kilmarie is situated on the W shore of Loch Craignish on the summit of a small knoll and neighbours the ruins of a former township, Kirkton. It dates from the early 13th c. and is roofless but otherwise complete. It was repaired in the late 19th c. and further consolidated in 1926 with the exterior being heavily repointed. It was originally dedicated to St.Maelrubha of Applecross.

The chuch houses a number of carved stones, many of which were moved from the graveyard to the inside of the church in 1974. There are two Early Christian stones with the outlines Latin crosses, twenty-six Medieval tapered slabs and four medieval tomb-chests which are decorated with various mouldings including armed figures, animals and plants. There is also one post-Reformation grave slab.
