PUB NIGHT - Saturday Feb. 03, 5PM at the Rockliffe
Tavern
After a grueling 21km hike to
Minden's most infamous cache,
(GC6004) On a Wing and a Prayer.
Join us as we account our
maniacal journey through the desolate barren lands of Southern
Muskoka, or if you are up to it, join us for the hike out there in
the morning!
There will be a brief service and spilling of beers to our fallen
Comrades, who we (may) have lost during this
journey.
There will also be a Toast to
all who succeed in traversing the Km to return with the elusive log
book from "On a Wing and a Prayer" signed.
Come one, come all!
"On a Wing and a Prayer" may
not be your cup-o-tea but there are 24 other caches within
20Km of Minden. Come on out for a day of caching and
meet up with us at the Rockliffe later.
Please take
a minute to log your intent to join us on our expedition and/or for
some food and drinks later at the Rockcliffe Tavern. Numbers
attending would be nice to know as well.
- You are under no
obligation to buy us a beer, although it would be nice
-
Details,
Details, Details...
The hike will commence from the following
coordinates N 44 56.105' W 078 47.777' at
8AM. Please try to arrive early as we wish to depart
promptly. We will be hiking on a hydro access road and it is
about 10.5 km in each direction. Hiking gear will be
dependent on weather and terrain, please come prepared to spend the
whole day outdoors and be prepared for the conditions. On Jan
13 the trail was frozen with about 4 inches of crusty snow. I
would count on there being more snow by Feb 03. Having
snowshoes and Gators may be a good idea. We hope to be out
before 4 PM but you know Murphy... again, be prepared.
The terrain is hilly and rocky with several
low points that have filled with water. We are certain that
these areas will be well frozen by the time we embark.
Typical Minden fare for those of you familiar with this
area.
Meet at the Rockcliffe Tavern on Bobcaygeon
Rd. in DownTown Minden for some food and drink about 5 PM.
The Rockcliffe is a well known tavern famous for it's
summertime entertainment; at this time of year it will be
quiet. The food is mostly tavern style food such as Wings and
Burgers for around $10. The owner assures me that younger
patrons are welcome if you wish to bring your kids
along.
