The city of Bellevue must have had some money burning a hole in
it's pocket. After 51 years, it decided to place three signs
welcoming you to Lake Hills. I found that pretty
humorous.

In 1955, this was the
boonies. It was a fair distance from downtown Bellevue, which
at that time was a small town with few stores. It was even
further from Seattle. US 10 (now I 90) was a four lane
highway down the road. I 405 was a two lane road about to
become a state highway. It took forever to get
anywhere. Not at all like now. This was the place to
come and raise a family. Everyone worked for Boeing and there
were kids everywhere.
This was the original entry into
Lake Hills. As you look around, you'll see the first model
homes along the boulevard. The church behind the sign was the
original sales office. The brick structure lost in the trees
was the original sign. Things have grown up in the 50+ years
since. The apartment building to the south was put in 15
years later. The old shopping center has been remodeled
recently. The cemetery is still there. Lake Hills
Elementary was completely rebuilt a couple years ago. Homes
have been remodeled. Families have come and gone. The
kids have grown up, moved back, and have kids of their
own.
The cache is a key holder located
at the old sign location (Moved from the new sign as there is
landscaping around it now.) Be discreet! Use the new
bench nearby to sit and enjoy the traffic.
