This cache is named in honour of the unusual foundations of Fyffe House. The house was built for the cooper who made barrels for whale oil at the whaling station in the mid 1800’s. There is a safe sandy swimming beach just along the road which is popular with the locals for launching their boats and kayaks. Don’t miss the seal colony at the end of the road and the magnificent views on the peninsula walkway which begins at the seal colony car park. The views to the west, east, north and south must surely make Kaikoura one of the most beautiful locations in the world. The cache is a small camo painted container. When placed it contained a pencil, log book and swaps. Watch out for prickles as you reach for it. The grassy surrounds of the cache area are open to the public and you are most welcome to walk around.
