Geocache Description:

The cache is short 10 minute walk along a sealed pathway from the car park at WW2 Manton Dam. The hide is among some rocks 10 metres uphill from the footpath heading to the dam wall lookout.

The Crew Of IMLOST2 no longer live in the NT, However this cache is too good to loose. If you visit and see it needs a little TLC please give it some so it can keep on keeping on.

Cheers - CREWIMLOST2

WW2 Manton Dam and pumping station is a 45 minute drive south of Darwin. The car park is a short distance from the Stuart Highway and is well signposted.

The pump house and dam were built to supply Darwin with water during the huge military build up during WW2. The pumps have remained quiet for the last 40 years except for a short period after Cyclone Tracey where they were bought back to life to provide water to the town whilst the main water supply was repaired. In recent years one of the pumps has been restored and is fired up on special occasions by a keen group of locals. Seeing and hearing this huge engine run would be something to remember.

The area is now a recreational reserve and is perfect for a walk along the sealed footpaths or a pleasant lunch on a blanket with the kids. The historical significance of the pumps and local area is signposted, as is the walk to the dam wall.

The gates are closed at night so access is daylight hours only.

The area is reasonably safe for geokids, they should be able to locate ground zero easily, a little help among the rocks should be all that is required.

Have fun with this one, it is a nice spot.

At Ground Zero the GPS will struggle a little with trees and hills. The Cache is a 90mm black screw top PVC pipe approximately 150mm long. It is hidden behind rocks approximately 10 metres up hill off the path to the dam wall.
