Das gut erhaltene Profil zeigt Sandsteine der Volpriehausen-Folge des Mittlerein Buntsandsteins. Die Entstehung liegt ca. 245 Millionen Jahre zurück. Durch Flüsse, die ihre Lage oft wechselten, wurden große Mengen Sand abgelagert. Die Verfestigung erfolgte durch tonig-kieselige Bindemittel. Dünne Schluff- und Tonsteinschichten sind zwischengeschaltet und deuten auf zeitweilig vorhandene flache Wasseransammlungen hin. Auffällige Schräg- und Kreuzungsschichten im Sandstein sind durch unterschiedliche Schüttungsrichtungen bei der Sandablagerung begründet. Die Rotfärbung weist auf trockenheißes Klima und Eisenverbindungen hin.

This quarry is in a good condition and belongs to the "Volpriehausen-Folge". Its origin was about 245.000.000 years ago. The sedimentation of sand is caused by rivers, which often changed their position. The stabilization resulted by clayic-siliconic binding-agents. Thin silt-layers and claystone-layers change with the sandstone. It points out that there were accumulations of water in the past. Conspicuous diagonal and cross-layers in the sandstone are caused by different pouring-directions of the sedimentation. The sandstone has a red colour resulting from hot and dry climate and iron compounds.
