Geocache Description:

A short walk off the Gatewood Trail to a hidden Ammo can. Pay close attention to nature around this cache. Check out the underground stream nearby....the rock where a tree grew around it..... This has miscellaneous items for the adults. Try to keep it in this theme when trading items. RESPECT AND ENJOY NATURE. HAPPY TRAILS!!!!!!!

RED-TAILED HAWK
(Buteo jamaicensis)

The Red tailed Hawk is commom throughout NC, is most identifiable by its rust red tail. They are often perched along highways or soaring over open fields in search of prey. Protected today, these birds were persecuted by people for that they fed on poultry. The diet of the red- tail Hawk, however, consists of redents, rabbits, amphibians, reptiles, and insects. While hunting, this Hawk will soar up to 300 feet scanning for prey. When prey is spotted, these keen sighted birds will snap their wings to their body and rocket down at 45 degree angle, feet and talons outstretched, ready to grasp its prey. Rarely do they miss. In the evenings these birds will return to the forest to roost.

San-Lee Park is a 160-acre park offers walking & hiking trails, a mountain bike trail, a Nature Center, playground, picnic facilities, campgrounds and two stocked lakes for fishing. Paddle boat and canoe rentals are available seasonally.
