The Villafranca Satellite Tracking Station at Villafranca del Castillo and Arab era castle
The Villafranca Satellite Tracking Station at Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain, is part of the ESA's ESTRACK ground station network. In 2004, it became the European Space Astronomy Centre, reflecting an increased emphasis on Space Astronomy and the Science Operations of ESA's astronomy missions.
The European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) is the ESA centre that specialises in astronomy and space science. It is located in Villafranca del Castillo, Villanueva de la Cañada, close to Madrid in Spain, and hosts the science operation centres for all ESA astronomy and planetary missions together with their scientific archives.
