10 CCAH - Village Dugas Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

canuck thistles: on a hunch ... i decided to do a maintenance check while up the road checking on our other cache. all i found of this one was a zip lock bag with a few things in it burried in the snow.

after a lot of consideration, we've decided to archive some of our acadian heritage series.
they were a lot of fun to place, a lot of fun to learn about and we both feel our goal of teaching geocachers a little bit of local history was acheived ... but their lifespan was shorter then we had anticipated. continually damaged containers, poorly choosen locations based upon the heritage signs, busier then expected lifestyles: these have all lead to our decision.
we will start by disabling the caches that are in need of attention or maintenance. if anyone is interested in "adopting" these locations or these ideas we have started ... please feel free to go ahead.
once disabled ... we will be along soon to pick up the containers to finish the archiving process.
kindest regards - canuck thistles

Geocache Description:

Colchester County Acadian Heritage Series. A series of caches showing “snapshots in time” of Acadian life in this county. All locations are signed and documented as significant Acadian Historical Sites. Container: rectangular lock n lock

Our home borders on both Hants and Colchester counties, we were quite surprised to discover how large the Acadian influence was in this area. Most of these historical sites are newly developed, please take the time to sit and enjoy their locations. Watch for the blue signs with a yellow star at the top … these signs have interesting information regarding each place.

The 1703 census lists brothers Claude and Joseph Dugas. From here one can see the original course of the Dugato River and where Acadian homes were located on the ‘uplands’.
