Best View in the Adirondacks Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Flowery: The spring has sprung, the snow is gone, and I was finally able to check on this one. Alas, it has gone missing - either muggled , or it fell way way down inside the animal den that has arisen under the rock in the approximate cache location. Either way, it is no longer findable. I love this location and considered replacing this cache, but I think I'll leave the spot for another cacher instead, in hopes that someone will place a new cache in the area sometime!

Geocache Description:

Easy cache with a tremendous view

This is a cash-n-dash, but you should bring your camera since I chose the spot for its incredible panoramic view of the High Peaks, with only fields and forest in the foreground. You are looking for a small lock-n-lock container. I drive by this spot every day and in the nine years I've lived in the Adirondacks, I still have not become conditioned to this view. So pull over, take a deep breath, and enjoy the wonders that Mother Nature has provided.

Some especially favorite times to visit this location:

In the early spring, when the fields are just starting to turn fluorescent green and the shadbush is blooming along the forest edges.

On a summer morning, when the smell of fresh mown hay mingles with the heavy dew.

Early morning in fall, when the mist hangs in the little valleys, contrasting the bright red maple foliage against the rich green spruce trees.

A winter evening when the alpenglow from the setting sun lights Whiteface Mountain in muted shades of pink and purple.

I hope you like this spot as much as I do! Please make sure to pull your car all the way off the road as this is a busy location, and be careful pulling back out. IF YOU CANNOT PULL ALL THE WAY OFF THE ROAD, DO NOT PARK ON THE SIDE! Especially in winter - we have HUGE snowplows around here and it is a blind hill. Pull into the nearby side street instead. Be respectful of the neighbors and the graveyard nearby, and be discreet as you will be in plain view of passing muggles. Enjoy a cone at Donnelley's down the hill (open Memorial Day to Labor Day) if you want more time with this view!
