Born in the extensive and diverse Price engineering works in Thames, this machine served the owners of the massive Kinleith complex for many years, hauling logs and timber products.
It now sits proudly, although slowly decaying away, in front of much interesting machinery.
Many have commented on the "unlikely" colours - however this is how 218 spent his later years- in the company colours of NZ Forrest Products - it certainly stood out well!
After the 400ml box was destroyed twice by muggles, I have had to reduce it to a magnetic keyholder. Too many little muggles crawling all over this beast to hide a box me thinks.
After you have the cache, have a look around this old sawmill site, with its extensive historical displays.
NOTE: while this is definitely a fun spot for the kids to see some machinery on display, State Highway 1 is only a few meters away, with no fence, so keep them close.
There is good off-road parking adjacent to the spot.
Logging Recommendations
This cache, (like most of Radionut50’s hides) is NOT meant to be hard to find – so logs saying ‘easy find’ are pretty meaningless. The reason for this hide is to introduce you to this piece of our country’s great history , so logs commenting on your experience are very welcome. You are also invited to crack the hint as you arrive, to reduce the chance of a prolonged search compromising the hide in this very public place.
