Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the 'WHITE LAKE WILDERNESS TRAILS' (South Granite Ridge Trail) part of the 'Musquodoboit Trailway Trails". A hike of 2.5 km on rails to trail, followed by 1 km on Granite Ridge Trail. Placed on Jan 2oth, 2007.

The first look-off on the South Granite Ridge Trail Loop, a great view of Admiral Lake. This is an ammo can cche, continue down the trail for more caches. From the Musquodoboit Harbour trail head, expect 2.5 km of easy walking on rail trail, then 8.5 km of wilderness trail, plus a 7.3 km return to the parking lot on rail trail. This loop may also be hiked in the opposite direction. Allow 6 to 7 hours, including 3.5 to 4.5 hours on wilderness trail. The wilderness trail begins off the east side of the rail trail at 2.5 km, just past the north end of the Admiral Lake loop trail. Watch for signs. A rugged trail climbs into the forested hills, generally in a northerly direction. A 2.5 km hike leads to Admiral Lake Look-off, with panoramic views towards Admiral Lake. The trail then enters White Lake Wilderness Area, and continues north through conifer forest, meandering up and down with the landscape. After about 2 km, you will discover the exquisite Granite Lake Look-off, perched high above Granite Lake. From here, the trail drops to MacDougall Creek, where it briefly follows an old woods road, before turning north again to access a series of high ridge look-offs, overlooking both the Musquodoboit Valley and the interior forest and lakes of White Lake Wilderness Area. This is well worth the effort! After about 8 km on the South Granite Ridge trail, you will encounter a three-way trail junction. One route descends to the rail trail near Normais Place, the halfway picnic shelter. It is an easy 7.3 km walk back to the parking lot from here. The other route is part of North Granite Ridge trail loop.
