Take a nice little hike in the Whetzel Preserve to find this cache.
This ammo can cache is located on the Whetzel Preserve. Parking is just a bit tricky. I suggest parking off of River Hill Road at around N 40° 12.176', W 79° 55.007', by the power lines. There isn't an awful lot of room but it should accomidate one or two vehicles. Any other parking area will probably make it significantly more difficult.
From the reccomended parking coordinates, it's about a quarter mile hike, basically all uphill. You'll have a well defined and maintained trail most of the way. When I placed this cache, the area was teeming with wildlife, so keep your eyes peeled!
The Whetzel Preserve is managed by the Allegheny Land Trust, an organization incorporated in 1993 to protect land of natural value in and adjacent to Allegheny County. You can view their web page (alleghenylandtrust.org) for more details. Motorized vehicles are NOT permitted on the land, please respect their rules. In addition to geocaching, deer hunting is allowed here, so be sure to wear blaze orange if you venture out during hunting season. Always respect the hunters who are out enjoying their sport while you are out enjoying yours. Please re-hide well.
