Motorway Mayhem M4 J31 Mystery Cache

Check your Satnav or look in your road atlas and you will see why this is an “unknown” cache. The junction number was reserved when the motorway was first planned in South Wales, but it now looks as if it will never be constructed. The cache, in a medium sized plastic lunch box, is a bonus for those finding the caches at Junctions 30 and 32.
Warning - the cache at J32 has now been archived, so some of the clues are no longer obtainable. This cache is being left in place for a limited period only, in case anyone has the clues, but has not yet had chance to look for this one. If we imagine that there is a J31, then the cache is hidden just over ¼ mile from it. The reference coordinates given above are not for the cache, but just for a random point about half way between Junctions 30 and 32. So the first part of the puzzle (not too difficult) is to work out where Junction 31 would have been. Code information on the back of the Log Books in the Motorway Mayhem Caches at J30 and J32 will give you the decimals of the minutes of latitude and longitude – and the rest is up to you! The coordinates for the cache are: Ndd mm.DAC Wddd mm.BAC where A, B, C and D are the code letters you will find at the other two caches. Inevitably, the absence of a junction means that it will take a little longer to get from the M4 to this cache (perhaps 10-15 minutes each way, if your navigation is good). However, in other respects, this cache fits in with the ethos of the series, being a couple of paces off a surfaced path, with convenient parking about 100 metres to the south. Although there is no service area here (surprise, surprise!), there are five pubs offering reasonable budget meals and a Sainsburys filling station, all within about a mile of the cache.
