Geocache Description:

A mystery cache involving a fair degree of yomping.

Sherlock Holmes

Many multicaches start with a difficult micro which eventually leads to an easy regular cache. So, just for a change, this one starts with an easy "final", followed by something more challenging.  I've rated this 5, not because the hide is especially tricky, but because there is a bit of work involved collecting clues.

There is nothing useful at the published coordinates, nor is anything hidden in dry walls.

You will need to pick up a clue in "Good Cache" first before proceeding to "Bad Cache".

To solve this cache, you will need the assistance of a famous private detective. His discussion of the case can be downloaded from the User's Web Page link at the top of this listing. Note that this is a zip file, so you will not get a preview; instead you have to download and unzip.

The resulting file is in rich text format and is best viewed with Word.  Failing that, it is also readable with Wordpad, OpenOffice or LibreOffice, the latter both on Windows and Linux.  I'm told it's readable on the Mac too - please e-mail and let me know how you get on. Incidentally, I've checked many times to make sure it's virus free, but as with everything Geocaching related, proceed at your own risk!

Please be careful not to log any spoilers.

Parking? A horse might be more appropriate.

Good hunting!

Update 28-Dec-08: Well, it's been some time since this was found, so I've added a little more text in the notebook (web link above) which might help. The missing page is unchanged. There are apparently three ways to solve this puzzle: the way originally intended, the way the first three finders did it, or cheat! But that would be telling .

Update 04-Oct-09: Sorry, folks, but I have had to modify the "Missing Page" slightly (see Maintenance Log below), so searchers will need to download a fresh copy.

Update 29-May-10: Another update thanks to some mindless vandalism <sigh>. "Missing Page" again modified slightly, so searchers will need to download a fresh copy.

Note that is is not necessary to take any special equipment (apart possibly from walking boots and waterproofs) out with you to solve the puzzle. All physical clues are in the usual types of location or right in front of your eyes.

Update 05-Aug-2018: unfortunately, the original web links are dead (thank you, ISP). I have put the Inspector's Notebook up on Google - see the Related Webpage - and I will change the corresponding clue in Good Cache soon to match the location of the Missing Page. Note that this means it will be impossible to do the cache in a day, not that it was really possible before unless you cheated (yes, I know who you are)
