Geocache Description:

The co-ordinates position you near a South Otago landmark under the rail track.

The cache is hidden within view of this landmark.

The stone arch is built from Hillend Bluestone in 1875, it was the end of the rail line for three years. In the year of its completion, it was opened with great fanfare and a paddle steamer ride on the river, followed by a party at the Newmarket Hotel in Balclutha. Later, the steel girder rail bridge was added and the rail line continued south to Invercargill. This caused the need for the Cobb & Co. coaches, and the business they brought to the five flourishing hotels in Balclutha, to decline into extinction.

From the given co-ordinates, in a NW direction you will observe the stone arch over the highway. Take the bridge number. You will need this information.

The co-ordinates that you will need to find the cache use equal portions of the bridge number.

Add 15 to one portion of the bridge number and divide by 1000. Add this to the given Southing.

Subtract 25 from the remaining portion of the bridge number and divide by 1000. Add this to the given Easting.

Cache is a camo painted 600ml plastic screw top jar.
