This cache is 5” diameter X 12” long container hidden in Kenneth Hahn State recreation Area above the Olympic Forest and Doris Japanese Gardens and also assessable from the upper forest trail. Care must be taken when leaving trail so as not to create geopaths.
Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area is open daily from Sunrise to Sunset. Monday thru Friday entrance is free but on weekends and holidays there is a $4.00 / vehicle Fee.
The cache itself is located off the main upper trail not far from an established lookout structure. Take care when leaving the trail so as not to leave geotrails and revealing the cache location. Look around and enjoy the scenic trails and capture views of Hollywood Hills, Century City and even the Pacific Ocean. You may also see the gray fox, raccoons, skunks, or desert cottontails. See all them oil hammerhead pumps! Oil was first discovered here in Baldwin Hills in 1924. The name comes from “Lucky” Baldwin who first purchased the land in 1875.
As you tour the park you will notice names like Gwen Moore, Janice’s Green valley, Ron’s Trail & Diane’s Trail. You’ll also see names like Randy Christine, Autum, Karina’s, Katy’s, Doris, and Jackson. These were all names of Kenneth Hahn’s children and closest associates. In the community center you will be greeted with many pictures and memorabilia of Kenneth Hahn and of what a wonderful LA Supervisor he was to the people of this community.
This cache is not intended to be a quick grab but a chance to walk on the many well cared for trails of this magnificent gem of a an urban park. Hewell Howser would probably call it California’s Gold and a place to be enjoyed for those not in a big hurry.
