Legend has it that as General Braddock's troops set up an overnight encampment in 1755 at a nearby spring, Braddock instructed several of his troops to hide the pay cache (full of The King's gold) nearby so it could be picked up on the way back. Well, after the massacre near Fort Duquense the paychest was forgotten. The locals say it's still up there on Braddock mountain somewhere.
The mountain village of Braddock Heights was founded in 1901 as summer retreat. The trolley line from Frederick to Hagerstown included several stops here. Braddock park was a small amusement park which featured a carousel, roller rink, and slide. From the observatory at the top mountain three states could be seen.
Today the park and all of its attractions are just memories, but the village is alive and well. Enjoy your visit!
Cache is located within the Braddock Heights Community Association Park. There is a playground for the kids. Cache approved by the BHCA. Container big enough for small stuff. Cache includes several new Washington dollar coins, old post cards, and many other adult and kid items...***Please trade even or trade up...Thanks***
