This cache has been placed in an area that may very well require

Make sure you dress appropriately. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! The
cache is a 1 ltr Sistema clip-top container. PLEASE READ BELOW
ABOUT SUITABLE AND LEGAL VISITING TIMES…..
This cache has been placed at Stockyard Point, in Western Port Bay.
It is well known as a good fishing spot at low tide as it is one of
the few places where the deep channel can be reached from
shore.
It is a beautiful place on a calm day, but an absolutely miserable
place in bad weather. My favourite time to visit is at night, and I
would even recommend doing the cache at night if you have the
opportunity. Don’t be surprised to see plenty of people fishing
here at 2am. It’s not unusual for this place. If you do happen to
go at night, at certain times of the year there are tens of
thousands of small crabs that disappear into the sand as you
approach! Quite a sight!
PLEASE NOTE: STOCKYARD POINT IS NOT
ACCESSABLE AT HIGH TIDE, BOTH PHYSICALLY AND LEGALLY. Because of
the migratory bird species that live here, you are only allowed to
access the point from a few hours before, through to a few hours
after low tide. Someone has recently removed the signage stating
this, but it is still inforced. Regardless of the legal aspect of
this, the coordinates given would be under water outside of these
times anyway. YOU MUST ATTEMPT THIS CACHE AN HOUR EITHER SIDE OF
LOW TIDE. For the purpose of this cache, you can go by the tide
times for
Warneet Pier.
The above coordinates are for the starting point (Point 1) of the
multi-cache. You can’t, however, park anywhere near this point. The
best place can be reached by taking Bay Rd off the Sth Gippsland
Hwy, and parking at 38°19.596’S, 145°30.997’E.
From here it is a very lovely, easy 1.5km walk to Point 1, right at
the tip of Stockyard Point. Take a moment to soak up the beauty of
the place if it’s a nice day. If it’s not, get on with it and get
out of there.
From Point 1, walk 190m at a bearing of 349° (based on true north)
to get to Point 2. You should have a tree immediately on your
left.
From Point 2, walk 43m at a bearing of 332° (true north) to get to
Point 3, where the cache is located. It’s that easy!
The original contents of the cache are:
- A fly reel
- Some surface poppers
- A spinner (lure) making kit
- One U.S. Quarter
- Logbook and Pen
Project 51 supports the “Trade Up Or Trade Equal” ethos.
