Geocache Description:

One of the many great things about living in the Sierra Foothills is it's diversity of wildlife. I am constantly amazed at the quantity and variety of wildlife to be seen. I enjoy viewing the creatures that inhabit this area so much that I thought I would start a series of caches to share some of my sightings with others.

Awhile back while looking for benchmarks I was pleasantly surprised to come across a Norwegian Blue Parrot which had apparently made this area its home. Now I don't know a lot about this particular species of parrot but I did find out that it has beautiful plumage, loves keepin' on its back, and is known for its displays of tremendous strength when it is caged.

Unfortunately I came upon it quite suddenly and surprised him and was dismayed to find out that the Norwegian Blue is also known for stunning very easily. As a matter of fact it stuns so thoroughly and deeply that when I came back a few weeks later it was still sitting where I had last seen it and was still quite stunned (If I didn't know better I might have thought it was dead, please don't tell me that it is dead).

So I have listed the coordinates where this remarkable bird is nesting and hope that you will visit and perhaps share my sense of wonder of this remarkable bird.

As I mentioned earlier I came across the Norwegian Blue while hunting Benchmarks. Be sure to look around the nesting site and you can find at least two Benchmarks and the remains of at least two others. I have listed a likely parking spot below. This cache is rated a three because there is a slope that you will have to negotiate that is not to bad but is covered with pine needles and may be a little slippery. Once up the slope the Norwegian Blue is on the North side of the chain link fence so don't climb over it.

And as always, when dealing with wild and endangered species be sure to attract as little attention as possible while observing them, be sure to disturb them as little as possible, and leave as little indication of your presence behind as possible. Enjoy.

P.S. cache can accomodate small items such as coins and pins. Plese bring a writing implement as there is not space to provide one.
