Geocache Description:

We urban ants spend a lot of time in the inner city and we want to introduce you to some of the interesting parks we have discovered. This cache overlooks one of Calgary's oldest and at just a few square blocks in size, perhaps its smallest community, Glencoe. The neighbourhood takes its name from an area of Scotland located in the County of Argyle. Glencoe is closely associated with its neighbouring community of Elbow Park and for all intents and purposes it's now considered part of that neighbourhood sharing a community hall, tennis courts, hockey rink and large sports field. Glencoe is dominated by the sports club that bears its name. The Glencoe Club is a private facility with more than 5,000 members. The history of the community and the club are inextricably linked with the original Glencoe Club dating to 1931 built on 4.56 acres that were part of the McHugh family estate. Thirty years later on Jan. 9, 1962 a spectacular fire razed the original club building. Almost immediately after the fire work began on rebuilding the club. Today the Glencoe Club includes two swimming pools, a fitness facility, a curling rink, bowling lanes, squash and tennis courts. You can take the direct route to the cache but we recommend parking at N 51 01.824 W 114 04.704 and stopping to enjoy the view before heading to the cache site. The cache is a camo'd peanut butter jar.
