Geocache Description:


The cache has been placed at the eastern end of the runway, although you can't see the aircraft taking off, they do fly very low as they pass over you.

Popham is the home of the Spitfire Flying Club which has over 500 members. The club name has been retained in memory of Charles Church who owned several Spitfires and whose family still own the airfield. There are over 100 aircraft based at Popham, ranging from Microlights to ex-russian fighter trainers. Wiltshire maintenance have full workshop facilities on site, Airbourne Aviation offer Microlight pilot training in addition to "Air Experience" flights. There is also and aerobatic team based on site.

There are many aircraft groups based on the airfield offering cheap flying, usually for a monthly fee and a reasonable hourly rate. Additionally there are several Cessnas and an AA5 for rental to members - at proberly the keenest prices in central south england.

Popham is also motor-cycle friendly and there own cafeteria is often used by bikers out for a spin. Additionally the members have their own "mini-airfield" within the grounds for radio controlled model aircraft flying.

There is limited parking available at N51 12.432 W001 14.024
