Gaston County's First Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NCreviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

In the land where cotton is spun,
George has a nice place, just done.
Games galore for everyone to play.
Metal shoes will show the way.
Go south from the corner into the trees.
Look for a triple, one in a squeeze.
Beware false marks, if you please.
A pile of stones mark the spot.
Only a few, not a lot.

The above text is the hint that was listed for Gaston County's first ever Geocache (hint does not apply now). Metal Shoes (GC28B5) was hid on November 12th, 2001 by a Texas cacher that was in town on a business trip. One thing that made this cache different than caches we have now is that is was designed to be found once and once only. The FTF was able to keep the cache. It was found ten days later and then archived.

This cache is located just a few feet from the original spot. It's a big micro. Please bring your own pen.

It's amazing how fast Geocaching has grown. Just five years ago there was only one cache in Gaston County and it took 10 days for someone to find it. If you're local, you've probably cached here before - but I bet you didn't realize you were so close to Gaston County's First Cache.
