Runway Three Six Traditional Cache

Background: When I'm not out hunting for ammo cans in the woods I'm usually hanging out at the local airport. As a student pilot I spend a lot of time "hanger flying" with the other pilots or working with my flight instructor to obtain my private pilot license. I simply couldn't resist combining my two favorite past times - geocaching and aviation!

An airport runway is generally identified by the magnetic direction in which it is oriented. The "runway heading" is rounded to the nearest 10 degrees and the divided by 10. Pilots and air traffic controllers pronounce each digit separately for clarity in radio communications. "Runway Three Six" would be aligned in roughly a 360 degree direction (i.e.magenetic north), "Runway Nine" would be used for a runway with a 94 degree-alignment (i.e.close to magnetic east), and "Runway One Seven" for 168 degrees. Each runway can be used in either direction, and hence has two numbers, each 180° apart.

My home airport of Olive Branch (OLV) has one runway. It is 6000 feet long, 100 feet wide, and is constructed of grooved asphalt. Since it runs in a north south direction, I frequently take off from "Runway Three Six"

The Cache: Following geocaching.com guidelines, this cache is not on airport property. However you will have a great view of the Runway Three Six. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs stay awhile to watch the planes take off and land. The container itself is a large Lock n' Lock container filled with kid friendly swag.
