This simple multi-cache takes you through the
historic district of Felton, Delaware. Felton was one of several
“whistle stops” laid out in 1856 when the Delaware Railroad line
was extended to central and southern Delaware. Other “whistle
stops” in Murderkill Hundred include: Wyoming (formerly known as
West Camden or Camden Station), Willow Grove, Woodside, Viola
(formerly known as Canterbury Station) and Plymouth.
By 1920, Felton was a booming community with
a population of 771. The railroad played an integral part,
providing a shipping method for lumber, baskets, canned goods and
peaches.
In 1930, a fire devastated the business
district causing $80,000 in damage. Within a few years, the
population dropped to 463. Passenger rail service to Felton ended
in the early 1950s The Felton Railroad Station still stands in the
center of town. It now houses the Felton Museum, which is open the
first Saturday of each month from 12 to 3 pm. To find this cache,
