Geocache Description:

This journey takes you to a forested area near the Mad River in Winsted.

The tragic flood of 1955 was one of Connecticut's worst disasters. The flood and its wrath wreaked havoc on this part of the state. The flood began on August 10 when hurricane Connie arrived. Hurricane Diane followed on August 17. The heavy rains and resulting flood resulted in loss of life and great property damage.

The local dam broke during the flood and half the town was washed away. Seven people in Winsted were killed by the water's wrath. Standing on the bridge, you can get a taste of the flood's intense powers of destruction. The resulting Mad River Flood control project was inspired by the 1955 flood.

Determine the date the bridge was built and the date on the benchmark at the provided coordinates.

Date on benchmark = XXXX Date bridge built = YYYY
ZZ = XXXX - YYYY
Final coordinates = N41 56.[ZZ-18]0 W073 6.[ZZ+21]7

Example:
Date on benchmark = 1950 Date bridge built = 1905
ZZ = 1950-1905= 45
Final coordinates = N41 56.[45-18]0 W073 6.[45+21]7 = N41 56.270 W073 6.667

Please, wear that blaze orange. As always, enjoy the adventure!
