Geocache Description:

This is a cache for hikers. It is a fairly well concealed ammo can located near Alamo Spring, in Wild Burro Wash, in the Tortolita Mountains. It was placed by some members of Team Lowgears (huffie the horrible, PuxatonyPhil, NaughtieDick) with able assistance from DesertReis and BoraxHiker. There are a couple of approaches to the area and some other geocaches along the routes.

Northern Approach. The northern approach offers the easiest hike. It requires an AZ State Land Trust Permit. It helps to have a 4x4. If you have a 4x4, park at JPARK in the waypoint table below. The road is blocked in a short distance and this is the last good turnaround. If you have a car, you may want to park at CPARK and hike to JPARK. It is a 3-mile hike (one way) from JPARK to Alamo Spring. As you hike over the saddle, you are close to GCNDN0, so you might want to grab it.

Southern Approach. The southern approach involves longer hikes but doesn't require a 4x4. There is a choice of trails recently built by the Town of Marana and, as long as you stay on the trails, you are not required to have an AZ State Land Trust Permit, so I'll describe the routes.

Choice A is about 4 miles (one way). Wild Borro Trail / Alamo Spring Trail / Alamo Spring Loop route. Park at the Wild Burro Trailhead Parking Lot at WBPARK. Start out on the Wild Burro Trail (east side of wash). At the AZ State Land Trust Boundary pick up the Alamo Spring Trail at AST. On the north end of the Alamo Spring Trail turn northeast at ASL and follow the Alamo Spring Loop to Alamo Spring. Note: GCY2MY is close to the parking lot; GCTP52 and GCW0CD are along the Alamo Spring Trail. GCTR6N is somewhere in the general Wild Burro area, but you have to solve the puzzle first, good luck.

Choice B is about 6 miles (one way). Upper Javelina Trail / Wild Mustang Trail route. The soutjern trailhead for the Upper Javalina Trail, UJTH, IS NOW IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR CONSTRUCTION ZONE. You need to park at WBPARK, hike the Wild Burro Trail to the northern end of the Upper Javalina Trail (well marked) and climb up to UJTH. Note: GCZRYV is located on the Wild Mustang Trail.
