Geocache Description:

Extreme Makeover: Park Edition!

Join us once again for the opportunity for geocachers to help clean up the parks we play in! This year, visit a new park that hasn't even been opened up yet. We'll help park managers clean up the recent "Gone with the Wind" property at Pokagon State Park.

Extreme Makeover: Park Edition!
When- April 14, 2007
Where- Pokagon State Park, Angola, Indiana

Once in the Park, the above coordinates will take you to the base camp for Saturday, a.k.a the CCC Shelter. Pokagon is again sponsoring this event, which means they are donating the shelter for our use Saturday! Thank you to Pokagon!

In 2003 and 2004, two seperate purchases were made to help buffer Pokagon from encroaching businesses. The first, Pokagon Motel property is under restoration and the new trail 9 traverses an area we CITO'd last year. The second, called The Gone with the Wind property, is north of the Pokagon Motel property and contains a rundown house with scattered junk. We will be heading over there and doing some junk collection, as well as some light demolition (for Lord Elwood's delight).

This year's lunch will be a pack-in picnic style lunch. We hope drinks will again be provided by McDonalds. You will not be required to bring a dish to pass. This will ease in take down, so we can get to work in CITOing.

There is a fee to get into the park.
Daily Non-resident Weekend $7.00 per day
Daily Resident Weekend $5.00 per day
Annual Non-resident $46.00
Annual resident $36.00

Pokagon State Park is a beautiful State Park located in Angola, Indiana. It is just 16 miles south of Coldwater, Michigan off of I-69. (Exit 154) There is a wonderful campground offering 270 sites, both non-electric and modern. All campgrounds in the Park have modern bathroom facilities. The Park offers over 10 miles of hiking trails, a 1.6-mile bike trail, bike rental, horseback riding, several playgrounds, 2 beaches (though they probably won't be used in April), and a Nature Center that offers many programs that the entire family would enjoy. (You can pick up a schedule at the front gate or at the Nature Center. They are also posted on bulletin boards in each campground.)

A few quick notes before the schedule:
*There are several convenience stores nearby, if you forget your lunch you can swing by one locally.
*Don't forget plates and tableware for you your group!
*Don't forget GLOVES to help out! *We will have a signature item trade table. Please bring some of yours!
