Geocache Description:

Amelia Island is Florida's Golden Isle which the French visited, the Spanish developed, the English named and the Americans tamed. It is the only U.S. location to have ever been under eight different flags.
French 1562-1565, Spanish 1565-1763, English 1763-1783, Spanish 1783-1821, Patriots of Amelia Island in 1812 for one day, Green Cross of Florida in June 1817, Mexican Rebel Flag December 1817, United States 1821-Present with the Confederates taking over Fort Clinch in April 1861-March 1862.
This Island holds alot of history and like most places we never would have thought to visit, Geocaching here will give you an insight and a history lesson also.
