Geocache Description:

This is a Computer History cache!

NOTE: The city has finished "repairing" the cache location. The cache is now back at its original location which is just outside the original DR address.

Before IBM came out with the IBM-PC there were already some "home" computers.

They didn't run "Windows" or even "DOS".
They often ran an operating system called "CP/M".

I still have a CP/M computer built around a Zilog Z80 processor.
It has a pair of 8 inch floppy (diskette) drives and 64K bytes of RAM.
Its display could not display graphics and used a font like this one.

CP/M was the product of a company located not in Seattle or even
"Silicon Valley", but in Pacific Grove, CA.
The company was called Digital Research.

Once the IBM-PC became popular, users had their choice of operating systems.
Digital Research's "DR-DOS" was in direct competition with Microsoft's "MS-DOS".
Ultimately, Microsoft became the giant it is today and Digital Research
has been gone for many years.

This cache is in memory of Digital Research and is near their former location.

The cache is a micro containing only a log. It is a "sign only" cache.
Please TNLNSL!

The coordinates given above are not those of the cache. They are a few hundred yards from the cache.

Note: When finished, roll the log around the pencil starting from the bottom of the log with the ends even.
The Geocache logo should end up showing.
Insert the log and pencil into the lid.
Replace the container exactly where it was or it won't stay.
