What's George Washington got to do with geocaching? Well, most
folks don't realize it, but old George Washington was an avid
geocacher! In fact, a little historical research will show that
George and William Penn had frequent heated debates over George's
monopolization of Mason and Dixon's services. While WP wanted the
survey team to concentrate on establishing boundaries, George was
constantly coaxing the pair to go on geocaching trips with him
instead. The incidents dated back to before the French and Indian
War, and some of the lesser-known historians have even suggested
that this was one of the issues that lead to the Revolution.
Ever since the feds decided to combine Washington and Lincoln's
birthday into President's Day, some people tend to forget their
actual birthday. George was born on this day in 1732, and since I
share the same birthday with him it's a little easier for me to
remember.
When:
I picked February 22nd this month so we could get together and
celebrate old GW turning 275 years old. I'm not quite that old, but
close. Same time as usual; 7 PM.
Where:
I picked George's favorite place to stop for a bite anytime he came
through Bear, Delaware:

George Washington explains to the Continental
Congress about geocaching. Apparently all but Benjamin Franklin had
some difficulty with the "satellite" concept!
