Geocache Description:

A hard-to-reach, easy-to-find ammo can on a small barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico.

This cache is located on beautiful Dog Island, a 7-milelong barrier island off the coast of Carrabelle. The main reason for the high terrain rating is that there is no bridge to this island. It lies about 4 miles offshore, and you must get there by private boat, ferry, or airplane.

This cache is dedicated to "Pet", who loved her trips to the island. The cache is an ammo can and is filled with pet-related items. Feel free to trade out any items, but please try to keep a pet theme.

Near the cache, you might come across a simple memorial stone dedicated to Pet. This is not part of the cache, so please do not disturb the marker.

The cache is located on a vacant lot between two cottages. It was placed there with the enthusiastic permission of the lot owner. The cache is easily reached from either the beach or the road, but please be mindful not to trample or damage any sea oats along the way. These simple plants play an essential role in stablizing the dune ecosystem.

If you plan on hoofing it or pedaling from the harbor (where the ferry lets you off) please keep in mind that it is a several mile journey each way, so make sure you bring plenty of water.
