CACHE HALFMIJL, korte beschrijving
Tijdens deze cache kunt u de zelfde waarnemingen doen als de ondergrondse tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog. De cache ligt in een bosrijk gebied met afwisselende panorama's. Wanneer u deze cache met kinderen doet is een bezoek na afloop aan het nabij gelegen papagaaiencentrum de moeite waard.

CACHE HALFMIJL, uitgebreide beschrijving
Tijdens de laatste wereldoorlog had het verzet twee geheime waarnemingsposten (WP1 en WP2) om de Duitse vliegbewegingen van en naar de vliegbasis Fliegerhorst Eindhoven (Welschap te bespieden. Op een derde geheime plaats (WP3) hadden zij hun radio verstopt.
Na de noodzakelijke voorbereidingen thuis en verkenningen van de situatie nabij de vliegbasis Fliegerhorst kunt u uw auto het beste parkeren op of nabij positie: N 51°25.664’ - E005°20.119’.
Afhankelijk van uw vaardigheid met het navigeren met een gps heeft de cache een lengte van 5,5 kilometer.
De positie van de eerste waarnemingspost (WP1) is als volgt te bepalen: Vanuit de waarnemingspost bezien ligt een virtueel way point X onder een hoek van 103 graden (Nwaar) en op een afstand van 1287 meter.
Dit virtuele way point X is het coördinaat van het snijpunt van de bissectrices van de binnenhoeken van de driehoek die wordt gevormd door de RD meetpunten 519312, 519203 en 519304.
De uitdaging is dit virtuele way point X te bepalen zonder gebruik te maken van OZI, een rekenmachine, PC, gonio-formules, stafkaart of MapSource. Het beste hulpmiddel is de gebruiksaanwijzing van uw GPS. En vergeet de spoilerfoto's niet.
In deze waarnemingspost (WP1) bevindt zich een metalen plaatje met daarop slechts 4 cijfers, respectievelijk: A, B, C en D. De som van de vier cijfers is 20. Controleer deze checksum!!!
Op een heldere dag wordt het volgende waargenomen: Een onbekend vliegtuig nadert vanuit het noordwesten, vliegt recht over de waarnemingspost (WP1) en vervolgt zijn weg met als koers ((A*B*C)+(B*D)+B) graden (Nwaar).
Op het moment dat dit vliegtuig over de waarnemingspost (WP1) vliegt worden flarden van een gecodeerd bericht van de verkeersoren van Fliegerhorst onderschept.
Decodering van dit bericht leverde het volgende op: Er bevindt zich een tweede vliegtuig op ABCD meter afstand, peiling 109 graden(Nwaar) t.o.v. de waarnemingspost.
Dit vliegtuig heeft de Fliegerhorst verlaten, maar meer in westzuidwestelijke richting en vliegt op het moment van waarnemen een koers van (A*B*(B+C+D)) graden (Nwaar).
De koersen van beide vliegtuigen zijn zodanig, dat ze ergens boven de bossen, elkaars banen zullen kruisen.
Op deze plek, in de rand van het bos vlak bij een klein watertje, waarboven de vliegtuigen elkaars baan kruisen, bevond zich de tweede waarnemingspost op een heuveltje.
Dit heuveltje is inmiddels door de vijand afgegraven.
De codeer-cylinder met daarin de sleutels E, F, G en H waarmee de waarnemingen op deze post werden gecodeerd en waarmee de cache kon worden gevonden bevindt zich in WP2.
Vanuit WP2 bezien ligt de tweede waanemingspost op P graden. Eveneens vanuit WP2 bezien kan een schoorsteen worden waargenomen op Q graden.
P = ((A+D)*B*C)- ((C*D)+1)

De cache (WP3) ligt op N 51°E.F’ - E005°G.H’
Voor een mooie wandeling ga dan via het punt N 51°25.274’ - E005°20.217’ naar WP3.
Alle hoeken zijn opgegeven t.o.v. het ware noorden (Nwaar).
De uitdaging
Het virtuele way point X en de way points WP1, WP2 en WP3 kunnen worden bepaald zonder gebruik te maken van OZI, een rekenmachientje, PC, gonio-formules, gedetailleerde stafkaart of MapSource.
U kunt deze punten bepalen uitsluitend met behulp van uw gps.
De posities van het virtuele way point X en van de observatie posten WP1 en WP2 en de positie van de cache (WP3) zijn zo gekozen dat u uw peilingen kunt uitvoeren zonder de paden te hoeven verlaten. U hoeft dus nooit paden te verlaten, door het bos of weilanden te struinen of u op prive-terrein te begeven.
Het is belangrijk om vooraf een strategie te bepalen hoe je te werk zou willen gaan.
Handige hulpmiddelen zijn: een spiegeltje een prikstok en de gebruiksaanwijzing van uw gps.
De caches zijn niet verstopt op of in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van grafheuvels. Wanneer u denkt hier te moeten zoeken zit u verkeerd!
De cache is uitgezet met behulp van een GPSmap60CS en deze kan daarmee ook worden opgelost.
Waarnemingspost 2 (WP2) is een kleine kunststof cilinder.
De cache (WP3) bestaat uit een ammobox met logboek en goodies.
Toeristische informatie
Op korte afstand van de cache bevindt zich het “Papegaaiencentrum”. Zeker met kinderen is dit park het bezoeken waard.
In het Papegaaiencentrum ligt de cache GCAF30, “The Bird Cage”.

In het cache gebied bevinden zich 17 grafheuvels uit de vroege en midden bronstijd. Deze locaties zijn met houten bordjes aangegeven.
De dorpjes rond het cache gebied hebben, zeker in de zomermaanden, gezellige terrasjes.

During World War II the resistance deployed two secret observation posts nearby the airport Fliegerhorst Eindhoven (Welschap) in order to observe German aircraft. On a third secret place they hid their wireless set.
After having finished your preparations at home and also the necessary observations nearby the airport you can park your car on or nearby position: N 51°25.664’ - E005°20.119’.
From this position you have to walk approximately 5,5 kilometres, depending on your navigation skills with a gps receiver.
The position of the first observation post (WP1) can be determined as follows: as seen from WP1 a virtual way point X is defined by an angle of 103 degrees (true north) and a distance of 1287 meter.
The position of virtual way point X is located by the intersection of the bisectors of the inner angles of a triangle formed by the RD calibration points: 519312, 519203 en 519304.
Your challenge is to determine this virtual way point without using OZI, a calculator, PC, detailed topographic map or MapSource. The best help to find the virtual way point will be the user manual of your gps. And don't forget the two spoiler photos.
In observation post (WP1) you can find an aluminium plate, carrying four numbers A, B, C and D. The sum of these four numbers is 20.
On a clear day the following observation is made: A unknown aircraft approaches from the north-west, flying directly above the observation post (WP1). The aircraft continues its flight on a bearing of ((A*B*C)+(B*D)+B) degrees (true north).
The moment this aircraft flies over the observation post (WP1), fragments of a coded message from the control tower of airport Fliegerhorst are intercepted.
Decoding of this massage yields the following information: on this moment a second airplane is located at a distance of ABCD meter, bearing 109 degrees (true north) with respect to observation post (WP1).
This aircraft was leaving Fliegerhort in a more or less west-south-westerly direction with a bearing of (A*B*(B+C+D)) degrees (true north).
The courses set by both airplanes will intersect somewhere above a wooded area.
On this point of intersection, in the edge of the woods, on a small hill the second observation post was located.
Recently the enemy removed the small hill and the observation post concerned

Seen from out of WP2 one can find the second observation post on a bearing of P degrees. Also from out of WP2 one can observe a chimney on a bearing of Q degrees.

Your challenge
The virtual way point X and the way points WP1, WP2 en WP3 can be located without using OZI, a calculator, PC, detailed topographic map or MapSource.
You will be able to do this using your gps only.
The locations of the virtual way point X and of the observations posts WP1, WP2 and WP3 are set to allow you to take bearings without leaving footpaths. You never have to leave footpaths, crossing the woods and meadows or entering private territory.
It’s important to determine your strategy of your way of working in advance.
Helpful aids are: a little mirror, a probe and the user manual of your gps system.
Please notice that the caches are NOT hidden on or near one of the bronze age burial sites. If your calculations indicate otherwise, try again!
This cache is developed and tested with a GPSmap60CS.
Observation post 2 (WP2) is a small plastic cylinder.
The cache (WP3) is an ammo box comprising a logbook and goodies.
Tourist information
In the direct neighbourhood a Parrot Park is situated. Children will enjoy a visit.
Cache GCAF30 “The Bird Cage” is located in the Parrot Park.

In the cache area you also will find 17 burrow cemeteries from the Bronze Age. Their locations are given by wooden signs.
The little villages around the cache area show very nice sidewalk cafés especially on sunny days.
